Offering transatlantic transit times that will be one to two weeks faster than current services from Dublin and Belfast, a new container shipping service launches tomorrow and with spare time in the schedule we expect reliability will be significantly better too.
Atlantic Container line(ACL) has collaborated with short-sea operator BGFL and port management in Liverpool and Dublin to develop a new container freight service that will significantly improve transit times and reliability in both directions between Ireland and North America.
The new ACL service uses Liverpool as first port into Europe and last port out of Europe, because it is the closest deep sea port to both Dublin and Belfast.
Continental ports are three to four times further away, with Liverpool requiring one day fewer steaming to/from Dublin and 1.5 fewer days to/from Belfast, which means less time, fuel and costs making it environmentally cleaner too.
Connecting Belfast, Dublin, Liverpool and North America (Halifax, New York, Baltimore and Norfolk), the carriers coordinate their schedules to minimise connection time at Liverpool, with BGFL arriving in Liverpool immediately after the incoming ACL eastbound ship and immediately before the departing ACL westbound ship.
The Port of Liverpool is also giving ACL and BGFL berth and crane priority to ensure smooth connections every week and and with no intermediate European ports to add time, port to port transatlantic transit times are from just 10 days.
The first eastbound sailing for this new service will be the ATLANTIC SUN, sailing New York on the 10th May and the first westbound sailing will be the JSP ANNA, departing Belfast on the 27th May and Dublin on the 31st May.
If you would like to learn more about this new service, or would like to discuss any aspect of your Irish, UK or US supply chain please contact your local team.
